Are you currently considering an abortion? We specialize in offering you a free comprehensive abortion consultation so you can make a confident, fully informed decision. In fact, we recognize this may be one of the most important decisions of your life. Same-day appointments available so you can be seen right away in your time of need; the choice is yours, but we can help.

Before making your appointment with an abortion clinic, here are some questions to consider:

Am I Sure That I’m Pregnant?

A single positive pregnancy test alone should never be used in determining an abortion decision, as it is important to know that 15-20% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Additionally, some pregnancies occur outside of the uterus, also known as an ectopic pregnancy. Should these complications arise, an abortion may not be needed.

Did you know that the state of Virginia legally requires individuals to receive an ultrasound before moving forward with an abortion? The Norfolk Keim Center can give an FDA-approved laboratory-grade pregnancy test and provide an ultrasound, all at no cost to you. The ultrasound is necessary to confirm a viable uterine pregnancy, cardiac activity, and how far along you are. For the health and safety of our patients, we also provide a list of important questions to ask the abortion provider prior to your procedure.

What Abortion Options Are Available?

The abortion options available to you are based on how far along you are in your pregnancy. This can be determined by an ultrasound, which is performed by our licensed medical professionals at our Norfolk location at no cost.

The different types of abortion procedures include:

  • Methotrexate (MTX)
  • Abortion Pill / Mifeprex / Mifepristone (RU-486)
  • Suction Dilation and Curettage (Suction D&C)
  • Dilation and Evacuation (D&E)
  • Dilation and Extraction (D&X) / Intact Dilation and Extraction (IDE)
  • Intra-cardiac Injection
  • Prostaglandin

The Abortion Pill

The abortion pill, also known as a medical abortion, is among the most common abortion procedures. With the abortion pill, there are two steps. First, you take a pill called mifepristone which stops the pregnancy from growing by blocking your body’s progesterone. After taking mifepristone, you then take misoprostol within 48 hours, which induces a similar experience to a heavy period and is like a miscarriage. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection.

Is the Abortion Pill Effective?

How effective the abortion pill depends on how far along in your pregnancy you are. This can be determined by an ultrasound that we can provide to you at no cost at our Norfolk location. If you’re considering the abortion pill or are unsure of what options might be best for you, set-up a same day appointment to speak to one of licensed medical professionals today.
